DRAMeRS: Diabetes Risk Assessment and Medical Referral or Signposting

Overview

The DRAMeRS project is a two-armed randomised controlled trial to compare the effectiveness of direct referral versus signposting at facilitating contact between patients assessed as being at high or moderate risk of type 2 diabetes with a healthcare professional. Patients attending for routine dental appointments will be risk assessed for type 2 diabetes using an online screening tool available on the Diabetes UK website. Practitioner and patient beliefs about general health checks being conducted in a dental setting will also be explored.

This study is being undertaken in partnership between NHS Education for Scotland, the University of Dundee and the University of Aberdeen.
