Combined Practice Inspection

Background

Every three years all dental practices that provide NHS Primary Care Dental services in Scotland are inspected by their regional Health Board to assure the quality and safety of the services they provide. Inspections are underpinned by the Combined Practice Inspection (CPI).

The CPI was first implemented in January 2014. It was updated in 2017 and 2020 and is due to be updated again in 2025/2026. To help ensure the CPI process and checklist continue to be fit for purpose and meet the needs of all stakeholders, the CPI Working Group will be undertaking a comprehensive review and update.

Current status

To inform the review and update process the CPI Working Group invites dental professionals to feedback on their views or experiences of the inspection process and checklist. A consultation survey will be carried out from September 2025. The consultation period will be approximately 6 weeks, closing in early November 2025.

After this time the working group will convene to review the feedback and begin the process of updating the CPI process and checklist.
