Combined Practice Inspection
Background
The purpose of the Combined Practice Inspection (CPI) is to support territorial and special Health Boards in Scotland assure the quality and safety of care provided in primary care dental settings (or services). Inspections are underpinned by the Combined Practice Inspection (CPI).
The CPI was first implemented in January 2014. It was updated in 2017 and 2020 and is due to be updated again in 2025/2026. To help ensure the CPI process and checklist continue to be fit for purpose and meet the needs of all stakeholders, the CPI Working Group will be undertaking a comprehensive review and update.

Current status
To inform the review and update process the CPI Working Group invited dental professionals in Autumn 2025 to complete a consultation survey to feedback on their views and experiences of the inspection process and checklist.
The working group is convening in February 2026 to review the feedback and begin the process of updating the CPI process and checklist
