PhD student: Fiona Stewart
Primary benefits of the study: Better understanding of the work practices and preferences of dental hygienists, therapists, and hygienist-therapists in relation to job satisfaction and future policy initiatives regarding career opportunities and work force planning.
The aim of this study is to identify factor associated with job satisfaction among hygienists, therapists, and hygienist-therapists. Following stakeholder interviews and focus groups, a postal questionnaire was designed to assess hygienist, therapist, and hygienist-therapist career preferences, job satisfaction, remuneration, work-life balance, and retirement plans. Questionnaires were mailed to all hygienists, therapists, and hygienist-therapists registered with the GDC as working in Scotland. A response rate of 54% (N=285) was achieved.
